Leawood Chamber Board of Directors Supports KCADC’s Campaign to Build A Better KCI
Leawood Chamber Board takes leadership role among Johnson
County, Kansas chambers by voting to publically lend its support to the A Better
(Leawood, KS) For immediate release -
July 5, 2017: The Leawood Chamber Board of Directors has
endorsed the concept of a single terminal at Kansas City International Airport,
along with many of their regional civic partners - the Civic Council, Kansas
City Area Development Council, the Northland Regional Chamber, the Platte
County Economic Development Corporation, the Downtown Council of Kansas City,
Missouri, the KC Chamber and VisitKC.
“While we do not specifically endorse any one vendor or plan, it is time for the metro area to invest in a new terminal at KCI. We support the informational campaign for A Better KCI which is focused on why we need a better KCI. We are
encouraged to see several possible options to answer the what and the how question,” stated Kevin Jeffries, President & CEO of Leawood Chamber and Economic Development Council, last Friday.
Why do we need A Better KCI?
•The KCI terminals have plenty of square footage, but it is in the wrong place and with the wrong layout.
•Certain airlines want to expand service but are physically limited by the current terminal layout.
•Today’s commercial airplanes are larger and carry more passengers which can overwhelm current gate areas.
•Amenity updates need to be made for the convenience of connecting passengers. Amenity updates may include: play areas, post-security shopping, larger restrooms, more self-ticketing kiosks, charging stations, dining options and passenger lounges.
•KC’s peer cities, and other airports around the four-state region, are investing in better terminals and competing with KC for business, travelers and job candidates.
•Kansas City’s new terminal will have a maximum of 42 gates and would be built within the footprint of the existing Terminal A. While our new configuration may be similar to other single terminal airports, it won’t compare in volume.
•Under public and private funding plans, users of the airport pay through concessions, parking, and ticketing fees. “If you don’t use the airport, you don’t pay.”
A new single terminal approach for Kansas City International Airport ensures maximum efficiency, capacity, expanded air service and future economic growth of the region. The Leawood Chamber hopes you will be able to use this information to inform your friends and employees who live in Kansas City, Missouri about the facts surrounding this project and encourage them to support A Better KCI … for a better KC region.
