The City of Leawood has recently awarded a construction contract for works and signage associated with the North Loop recreational bicycle route. Starting in Leawood City Park, the North Loop bicycle route will run north on Lee Boulvard to 105th St. From this point the route splits east or west and follows a loop to Somerset Drive and back again.
Signage, lighting and traffic control works will be installed along the identified route. Work to the route should be completed by June 2018. You can view a map of the route here: http://www.leawood.org/news/pdf/20180409NorthBikeLoop.pdf
The route complies with the principles of the City Council's "Self-propelled: A Pedestrian and Bicycle Masterplan", which was adopted in 2014. The masterplan recognizes that walking and biking are very much parts of life in Leawood. The masterplan is dedicated to making Leawood a place that encourages its citizens to use these healthy, low-impact, and fun forms of transportation as a greater part of their routine lives. As such, the masterplan proposes a network of pedestrian and bicycle routes that knits the city's neighborhoods and major destinations together in a safe and pleasant form.
