Dr. Joseph M. Sopcich is the fifth president of Johnson County Community College. He has served the College since 1992 in such roles such as executive director of Institutional Advancement and executive vice president of Administrative Services.
JCCC will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019, and Sopcich is preparing the College for its next 50 years. He has spearheaded a new facilities plan. It addressed better ways to use existing campus space and also called for two new buildings, one for the arts and one for technology.
He is committed to student opportunity, fiscal responsibility, and relevance in the classroom. He considers himself extremely fortunate to be president of a college with outstanding faculty and staff, in a community that is extremely supportive of education.
Sopcich earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Notre Dame and a PhD from the University of Kansas. He taught as an adjunct in the College’s business division from 2006 to 2013.
