Effective January 2, Shawnee Mission Health and its entire health network is changing its name to AdventHealth. Shawnee Mission Medical Center will become AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, and the current Prairie Star and Overland Park campuses will become AdventHealth Lenexa and AdventHealth South Overland Park.
This is a result of the rebranding of its parent network, the Adventist Health System, to AdventHealth. The Adventist Health System is one of the nation's largest faith-based health care systems, with more than 80,000 employess and nearly 50 hospital campuses. The name change to AdventHealth is part of an effort to engage consumers more closely and to help them more easily distinguish AdventHealth's care locations and services throughout the United States.
Doug Spear, executive director of marketing and strategic development for Shawnee Mission Health, acknowledges the challenges that rebranding a community health system brings.
"Rebranding is hard and it's a big undertaking," he said. "It's hard for employees and the community to get used to a new name. But in the end, we're the same organization. We're still providing good care".
