Leawood City Council Votes to Expedite Approval Process for Outdoor Restaurant Seating
Monday night, May 18, 2020, the Leawood City Council voted unanimously to establish an expedited approval process so Leawood restaurants can install new or expanded outdoor seating capacity.
There will be no formal application or fee. The intent is to make the process as simple and quick as possible to allow Leawood restaurants to improve upon their current business opportunities.
The process will involve a restaurant first preparing a sketch of how they want to expand. The sketch needs to detail social distancing compliance; however, it does not need to be elaborate.
Second, the restaurant needs to contact the Leawood City Administrator, Scott Lambers, at 913-663-9102 or at email@example.com, to set up a time for him to come by and review what they are requesting.
Criteria to be reviewed include:
• looking at pedestrian traffic if the proposal includes the use of a sidewalk
• vehicular management if the proposal involves a parking lot.
If the proposal looks acceptable, City Administrator Lambers will sign and date the sketch and the restaurant will be good to go for the balance of 2020.
The Leawood Chamber & Economic Development Council is partnering with the City of Leawood to communicate this new opportunity to all Leawood based restaurants that will give them the opportunity to attract more customers to their restaurants, while maintaining current social distancing requirements.
