Did you know that most plastic tubs and containers are recyclable? However, there are a few exceptions. It can be confusing so here are a few rules for the road.

Recycle all plastic containers marked with a #1-7 in the recycling symbol.

If you recycle the plastic caps, screw them back on the containers as they get caught in the machinery if loose.

  1. No foam is recyclable even if it has a #6 on the bottom.  So, no foam soup cups, foam drinking cups, meat trays from the grocery store, or styrofoam of any kind.
  2. No household hazardous waste containers including items such as pesticides, paints, drain cleaners, etct.
  3. No plastic prescription medicine bottles.  Vitamin bottles are OK.

It is best to try to minimize the use of plastics. Try to find ways that you can cut back on plastic in your household. You will be surprised at what you come up with!
