New Traffic Light Coming at Lee Blvd and Mission Road

If you've ever been to City Park and tried to make a left turn to head south on Mission from Lee Boulevard, you've no doubt suffered the frustration of a very long wait to make that turn. You also likely noticed how hard it is to see northbound traffic approaching from the south on Mission.

At the Council meeting on April 16, 2018, the Leawood City Council approved a cost-sharing agreement to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Lee and Mission road.

Due to the anticipated additional traffic to be generated as a result of the updates to the Johnson County Wastewater plant in Leawood, Johnson County had planned to install a temporary traffic signal that would facilitate better construction traffic flow in and out of City Park. In discussions with the County, the City determined that it would be more cost-efficient if the signal were to become permanent and the City would accept responsibility for a portion of the installation costs. The traffic signals will use sensors to maintain efficent traffic flow, and the hope is to also coordinate that signal with the signal further to the north at Mission Farms.

The work on this signal will begin in the next few months.
