St. Joseph Medical Center Doctor Reunites Patient with Beloved Dog
Dr. Ryan Sears, who works in geriatric medicine at St. Joseph Medical Center, is being celebrated and recognised for going above and beyond for a patient who was on comfort care and passing away.
The patient was desperate to say goodbye to her dog Herman before she passed. She had no family or friends in the area who could visit. So Dr. Sears found out where Herman was being cared for and drove to the Leawood animal shelter to pick him up and bring him to the ICU. Herman was very excited, but the patient calmed him down enough to say goodbye. Dr. Sears stayed with the patient and Herman for most of the day and well into the evening.
The patient passed away the following day, and Herman has since been adopted. You can read more on this story HERE.
The ICU staff at St. Joseph Medical Center had a thank you celebration for Dr. Sears for his selflessness and commitment to the patient.
