Leawood Fire Department Asks for Public Input on 5 Year Strategic Plan
03/04/2019 04:21 PM

The Leawood Fire Department is internationally accredited with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International by the Center for Public Safety Excellence, earning this honor in August 2015. The department is one of only a handful of departments worldwide to hold this distinction. You can read more here.

As part of on-going efforts in pursuit of continuous improvement, the Leawood Fire Department is required to update their 5-year Strategic Plan and are asking for the public's input. The last strategic plan in 2014 was developed in consultation with both internal (LFD personnel ) and external (community) representatives.  The Strategic Plan defines the LFD's mission, vision, values and sets up goals and objectives to guide the department in growth and improvements during the planning period.  Feedback from the public on the LFD's performance and areas for potential improvement or change is valuable in helping redirect and focus efforts as the department strives to maintain its international accreditation.

To gather public opinion, the LFD is offering two options: one in person, and the other online.

1) In Person - Breakfast morning event on Monday April 1 between 7:30 am and 10:00am in the Oak Room at City Hall.  The LFD will provide breakfast while you complete a short survey about what is important to you. You will also have a chance to talk with LFD staff about what they do and to receive answers to any questions you may have. There is no charge and the questionnaire should only take 15 minutes. Open to anyone who lives or works in Leawood. Breakfast by Two Sisters Catering.  RSVP to Becky Craig at

2) Online -   If unable to attend in person, you can complete a survey online using the following link:  All responses will remain anonymous.
